Recipient Named for Robert S. Pritchard Music Scholarship Award
The Robert S. Pritchard Music Scholarship Fund announced that Mr. Solomon Bachuda of Tanzania was the recipient of its Music Scholarship award. Mr. Henri Polgar, Executive Director, and Mrs. Lisa McFarren-Polgar acknowledged the contribution of SHINA, Inc. in the selection of Mr. Bachuda for the award. The PaPa is indeed pleased that Mrs. Jessica Mushala and Mr. Amos Mushala of SHINA selected this very talented musician who will have an opportunity to access a formal education in music. Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Pritchard has had a steadfast commitment to support young people throughout the world to achieve their God-given talents and thus better serve the communities they live in
In a written statement, Mr. Bachuda stated, “Despite challenges I have faced in life, I can say the Dr. Pritchard scholarship, have given me hope and opened the door not only to me, but the community in general which I will be representing, in developing and preserving the music. I thank God for guiding me till now. Even though I am very behind, I do believe there is always a new beginning. This is a new beginning for me and my family.”
The PaPa also presented SHINA with a donation to benefit their Micro Grants program for women. The Micro Business program assists widows and orphaned youth to be self-reliant, feed and educate their families. The program include seminars and training on how to run businesses, do budgeting, record keeping, and marketing. The program is not only an economic gain but also a tool for social development and support in cultural enrichment. It encourages the participants to be fully involved in the community to bring change and awareness on HIV/ADS and other plights facing their communities and surrounding areas
